Who Wants to Work?

Someone mentioned this thread in comments yesterday and it’s worth a full post. It’s a compendium of newspaper reports of capitalists claiming workers just don’t want to work that goes back well over a century. Today, we see this again–and in fact, not just among employers but among a lot of white male workers deeply invested in producerist ideology–that there are lots of people who don’t want to work. It’s always part of a larger capitalist propaganda campaign to convince people to accept bad jobs for little pay that don’t threaten the edges of their profit margins. That it is a pretty effective campaign strategy is evident in the continued power of producerism, the low unionization rate, and the overall individualist world that we deal with in neoliberal America. So check out the thread and consider the propagandistic ideology behind all these elite and employer complaints.
