Wanted to recommend this recent short film by the Palestinian director Samira Saraya, starring herself as a lesbian in Israel in a relationship with an Israeli intelligence officer. Then her sister finds out and is outraged that she’s dating a murderer. There’s no easy conclusions. There are a perhaps surprising number of films in the last 15 or 20 years on gay relationships between Israelis and Palestinians. I guess the combination of these themes get right to the heart of the trickiness of the modern world and make for good drama. Anyway, this is a good film. Check out the trailer here. I saw it on Criterion Channel, but you may be able to find elsewhere if you don’t have it.
