The government of Belarus basically hijacked a passenger liner in flight in order to force it down and arrest a dissident:

The Belarusian authorities said they took the action after receiving information about a bomb threat on board, and did so even though Vilnius, the plane’s final destination, was much closer than Minsk when it was forced down. Mr. Lukashenko and his government are known to use ruses to pursue their political opponents.

Reportedly the bomb threat came from intel agents who had followed Roman Protasevich onto the plane. A MiG-29 was dispatched to ensure compliance. The EU needs to punch back hard on this, given that the flight originated in Athens and was destined for Vilnius.
