LGM Podcast: The Westerns

A few weeks ago Keith Phipps published a list at the Vulture of the 50 Best Westerns of all time. It will not surprise you that this list generated opinions. Erik, myself, and longterm friend of the blog Charles Dainoff digitally sat down to chew over the list, tackling questions such as how legitimate it is to confine the population to films depicting the “Old West,” why the list did not include very many films from the silent era, and which films were either excluded, rated too high, or rated too low. We then dug into the top two films (the Searchers and Unforgiven), interrogating how they arrived at the top stops and why they were deserving (or not).
