There is a major exposé in the December issue of Rolling Stone on the violence and impunity of the Chicago Police Department. I know the story well and was interviewed for the piece, and still find it horrifying.
There is not much here I can pull-quote, because it’s a story unfolding in many parts. Regardless, I just don’t understand how readers can honestly read this whole story and consider the body of evidence here and elsewhere (including in my post from earlier today) and think this is a system that can be fixed via milquetoast reform. If you’re someone who still thinks police can be reformed, essentially all of the history and all of the evidence is stacked against you. You’re dabbing a wet paper towel against the window frame of a house that’s fully aflame.
