The crackup
Obviously Biden should insist that the second “debate” goes forward with or without President Cranky Poopypants:
President Donald Trump said Thursday that he will not participate in the second presidential debate with Joe Biden after the Commission on Presidential Debates said the event will be held virtually due to the President’s positive coronavirus diagnosis.
“I am not going to do a virtual debate,” Trump said on Fox Business. “I am not going to waste my time on a virtual debate.”Trump’s comment throws into question the second debate after the commission took the significant steep to wholly remake the contest between the two candidates. The move was seen as needed by members of the debate commission given the uncertainty around the President’s health.
“The second presidential debate will take the form of a town meeting, in which the candidates would participate from separate remote locations,” the commission said in a statement. “The town meeting participants and the moderator, Steve Scully, Senior Executive Producer & Political Editor, C-SPAN Networks, will be located at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County in Miami, Florida. The White House Pool will provide coverage of the second presidential debate.”
That 65 million people are going to vote for a toddler on (literal) steriods is . . . something.
The next 26 days are going to be the longest three years of our lives. I fully expect Trump to do something completely insane before the end of the month, along the lines of ordering Barr to arrest Biden, (eta: a commenter points out this already sort of happened yesterday. FML as the kids say) or maybe just quitting and lamming it on Halloween, leaving everyone else to clean up the mess.
. . . It’s sinking in to me that yesterday Trump “suggested” that his AG arrest his opponent and it wasn’t really a story.
Also, Senator Mike Lee says hello:
. . . Somebody — probably Stephen Shanda or Baghdad Barbie — just typed this out and issued it in the form of an official White House statement:
President Trump won the first debate despite a terrible and biased moderator in Chris Wallace, and everybody knows it. For the swamp creatures at the Presidential Debate Commission to now rush to Joe Biden’s defense by unilaterally canceling an in-person debate is pathetic. That’s not what debates are about or how they’re done. Here are the facts: President Trump will have posted multiple negative tests prior to the debate, so there is no need for this unilateral declaration. The safety of all involved can easily be achieved without canceling a chance for voters to see both candidates go head to head. We’ll pass on this sad excuse to bail out Joe Biden and do a rally instead.
The liquor cabinet beckons.
