Speaking of Rick Derringer, my nearly six year old has now gotten majorly into 1970s rock, because of the old fashioned six-CD player in my car. So I end up explaining stuff to him that I don’t really understand, like overdubs, and things I’d prefer not to, such as when he asks what Trampled Under Foot is about (“It’s about how Robert Plant really really loves . . . his car.”).

I was very proud the other day when he recognized the clavinet that Billy Preston ran through a wah-wah pedal to get the sound he wanted for Outa-Space was the same instrument used in both Trampled Under Foot and Superstition.
