I thought about delaying this given the horrifying news this evening. But we need a distraction. Or at least I do.

I’ve been watching the second season of The Taco Chronicles on Netflix. It’s a bit ridiculous in that it goes way overboard in the mythmaking, almost supernatural nature of tacos in the modern context. And the episodes are too long. There’s only so much one can say about suadero tacos, even if they are absolutely amazing. 30 minute episodes about this are 10 minutes too long. However, as I’ve spent a lot of time in Mexico and love the food to death, it is a much watch to me. Plus I’ve been to one of the taco stands in the suadero episode many times and it is a truly sublime experience. Anyway, obviously these episodes aren’t streaming on YouTube. But bad Taco Bell commercials from the 70s are! And for most non-Mexican Americans, myself included, this is the introduction to Mexican food, as bastardized and bland as it was and is. Plus even for bad commercial jingles, this one is pretty dumb.
