Who are your favorite black creators?
I posted a black square on Instagram for the BlackOut, and while it was thrilling (not really), I feel like I can do more.
I invite you to share your favorite black creators with with the LGM readership. Artists/artisans, singers, actors, musicians, filmmakers, writers, poets, designers, chefs, you name it. Also please feel free to plug your favorite black-owned small businesses.
I’ve been collecting Jonathan Green prints for years. He’s a South Carolina native currently based in southern Florida who paints scenes of African American subjects toiling and playing in the lowcountry. His color palettes are a joyful punch in the face. I will never stop collecting.
I’ve developed a “Shut up and take my money” attitude towards Jordan Peele and everything he does. He’s making some of the most interesting and provocative horror-thrillers to hit theaters– in decades. If you haven’t seen “Get Out” and “Us,” please remedy that immediately.
Oh, and…JANELLE MONAE! JANELLE MONAE! JANELLE MONAE!
