Ian Holm has passed. I was not aware how little work he had done in recent years; his last film was the final, terrible Hobbit movie, and he hadn’t been in much in the years before that. Most of the tributes that I’m seeing have focused on his portrayal of Bilbo Baggins in the Hobbit, and Ash in the first Alien film, but my favorite among all of his performances was as the crusading/grifting attorney in The Sweet Hereafter:
