Brett Kavanaugh Was Not Meaningfully Investigated by the FBI

The coda to the Kavanaugh hearings was an FBI investigation ordered after Jeff “I Would Do Anything to Constrain Trump Except Anything” Flake pretended to have a conscience again. As Paul alluded to in his post, this investigation was a total sham:
As Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh prepares for his second year on the Supreme Court, new reporting has detailed how the limits ordered by the White House and Senate Republicans last year constrained the FBI investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct when he was a college freshman.
The FBI was informed of allegations that Kavanaugh, while drunk during his freshman year at Yale, exposed himself to two heavily intoxicated female classmates on separate occasions. The bureau did not interview more than a dozen people who said they could provide information about the incidents.
One of the accounts, reported by Deborah Ramirez, was made public at the time of Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings. The other, not publicly known until this weekend, was reported by a male classmate who said he witnessed the incident. He unsuccessfully sought to get the FBI to investigate with help from a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee who asked FBI Director Christopher A. Wray to look into the allegation.
For the purpose of Donald Trump’s consigliere, they couldn’t have done their jobs better:
Last year, the Justice Department gave the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service, the second highest honor in the department, to prosecutors who secured the conviction of Ahmed Abu Khattala, a ringleader of the Benghazi terrorist attack.
This year, the New York Times is reporting that Attorney General William Barr is giving the award to DOJ lawyers who worked “to support the nomination” of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Former federal prosecutors blasted the news as an unprecedented perversion of justice. “What a joke,” tweeted Elie Honig, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. “This prestigious award typically goes to prosecutors who make the biggest cases against terrorists, corrupt politicians, drug cartels, organized crime enterprises, etc. And now AG Barr is using it to honor… Team Kavanaugh.”
The only upside to Bill Barr proudly and openly acting as Donald Trump’s personal attorney has been is that it will limit his ability to produce an October surprise. James Comey’s reputation as a Straight Shooter of High Integrity who was Above Partisanship got his anti-Clinton interventions much more traction. Barr, despite his long history as a sleazy Republican fixer, amazingly seemed to start with this presumption, but after he suckered the media on the Mueller memo seems to have lost it with all but the most credulous reporters.
