Bibi Andersson, RIP

The great Swedish actress has died. It’s hard to overstate how wonderful she was in so many Ingmar Bergman films (as well as how skilled he was at getting amazing performances and writing meaty roles for women, a real problem for so many great male directors). Of course everyone is going to focus on Persona for the obvious reason that it is an astounding film with astounding performances from titans of the silver screen. But she was also great as the young wife in The Seventh Seal who brought some level of joy to the proceedings, in the dual role in Wild Strawberries, as half of the angry hateful friend couple in Scenes from a Marriage, etc.
