I love these new progressive women of color in Congress.
Hours after she was sworn in to Congress, Michigan Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib used an expletive Thursday in pushing for impeaching President Donald Trump.
Speaking to a crowd at an event sponsored by the progressive group MoveOn, Tlaib recalled the moment she won her election in November.
“And when your son looks at you and says, ‘Mama look, you won. Bullies don’t win,’ and I said, ‘Baby, they don’t,’ because we’re gonna go in there and we’re going to impeach the motherf****r,” Tlaib said Thursday, speaking of Trump, according to a video posted on Twitter by Nestor Ruiz, an activist with United We Dream.

What the fuck is Chait even talking about here? How is this a gift to Donald Trump? What does this possibly do for him? What evidence is there that President Pussy-Grabber suffered because of his language? It almost certainly helped him! His crudeness is why he won the Republican primary! Here’s the number of voters who will vote for Donald Trump or other Republicans in 2020 because Tlaib called him a motherfucker: 0. This is just Chait hating anyone to his left. Of course, Chris Cillizza has “thoughts” that are the same. And so does David Axelrod. And others who should be ignored.
Tlaib herself is unapologetic, as she should be.

The Democratic caucus is all nervous too, although I think Pelosi herself has handled this just fine, noting that Donald Trump routinely says and does things far worse.

My take on Rashida Tlaib is that while the Democratic Party is being pushed to the left on policy, it's not really being pushed left at all on political temperament. And the policy doesn't really have a prayer unless people make the second push happen as well.

There is a new generation in town that simply doesn’t accept the rules the Democratic Party has played–and lost–by for the last 35 years. I realize that lots of liberals would like to think norms about behavior matter, but they do not. They’d like to think that reasoned discussion and being right on the issues matter, but they do not. They’d like to think that the nation is going to be alright in the end, but it is not. They’d like to think that the GOP can be brought to its senses and return to responsible rule, but it can not.
The Republican Party is a death cult for whom freedom means white men running around with high-powered weapons killing whoever they want, who think ideal policy goals are women dying in pregnancy, poverty, and old people dying on the streets in a polluted, unlivable world. The leadership to bring us back from this–not just the leadership to win an election but the leadership to win long term–has to see the Republican Party for what it is and act like it. Rashida Tlaib may well be part of that leadership. It in 2018. People are fine with swearing. In fact, they want it as a tool to motivate them to action.
We need more Rashida Tlaibs in Congress. Impeach the Motherfucker should be a central Democratic Party slogan. Let the pearl-clutchers cry in a corner. The future is not with them.
