It’s been suggested to me that burying news of my book’s preorder information at the bottom of a multipurpose post about other matters — as I did last Friday — is not strategically smart. (I’m not good at this self-promotion stuff.) So, for those of you who missed it and are interested, my book Occupied Territory: Policing Black Chicago from Red Summer to Black Power, is now available for preorder at the link here.

I look forward to talking more about it with folks over the coming months. For now, I will just say that it was not an easy book to write, and ten years is a lot of time to spend living with this subject matter. (I started the research for what became this book in 2008, prodded by my own experiences and observations. So while it’s certainly informed and shaped by the Black Lives Matter era and sympathetic to that movement, it’s not a product of it.) I will also, however, say that I’m proud of it, and hopeful that it offers activists, citizens, and scholars alike something of value.
