Happy Birthday!

LGM came online fourteen years ago today as a project run by three University of Washington graduate students, plus a very few friends and students who were courteous enough to take notice. Now we are a community of fourteen writers (not to mention emeriti), many hundreds of commenters, and many thousands of regular readers. We have all been through… a lot during these fourteen years, but for me LGM has always been a bastion of stability. I speak for everyone when I say that we deeply appreciate your continued patronage and support.
As always, we hold our annual fundraiser on our birthday, so expect to see this post at the top of the page all day long. We would be honored if you choose to give; I am rather behind in thank you notes, but that does not mean that we are any less thankful. If you prefer, we have merchandise, and we benefit from your patronage of Amazon in our name. We will do our best to put your donations to good use:
- Hiring an assistant to import comments from the old system, a process which is time consuming
- Improving the technical sophistication of the podcast through better equipment and better software
- Paying our writers more
- Continue purchasing Russian twitterbots until we can convince Bill Walton, or at least Mark Eaton, to contribute a guest post
- Establishing a legal defense fund for when Glenn Greenwald finally decides we’re sufficiently consequential to sue
- Stock up on dad jeans and pleated khakis
I should also note that we are giving consideration to moving to a Patreon model, which might well obviate the need for advertisements. More research needed on that, however.
