A Declaration of Independence from a certain stupid kind of internet argument
We hold these truths to be self-evident:
Donald Trump exploited the tremendous amount of racism that still exists in America today to get elected president. Racism, and its ideological manifestation as the doctrines of white supremacy, were and remain absolutely central to Trump’s surprise capture of the GOP nomination and then the presidency of the United States.
Whether Donald Trump is “personally” racist or “actually” a white supremacist is, in practical political terms, a meaningless question.
Anyone who voted for Trump and/or does anything to support him is supporting racism and white supremacy. The extent to which such people are themselves “personally” racist or “actually” white supremacists is a potentially interesting question from the perspective of psychology, sociology, political science etc., but, as in the case of Trump himself, irrelevant in practical political terms.
This is America in 2018. If you support Donald Trump, you support white supremacy. Does that make you a white supremacist? Yes it does.
