The Death of Effects Based Operations
By I’m stunned that a concept initially described as
“a process for obtaining a desired strategic outcome or effect on the enemy through the synergistic and cumulative application of the full range of military and nonmilitary capabilities at all levels of conflict”
could later be termed
“fundamentally flawed, has far too many interpretations and is at odds with the very nature of war to the point it expands confusion and inflates a sense of predictability far beyond that which it can be expected to deliver.”
It’s nice that somebody finally noticed that Effects Based Operations (which, when the jargon is discarded, are more or less operations that are designed to have effects), is a concept that could not possibly have any determinate meaning beyond the most useless and banal.
