Fascism in America

Although I can’t say that I completely agree with his argument, David Neiwart’s series on fascism in America is a must read. If you haven’t taken a look, please do.

Part 1: The Morphing of the Conservative Movement

Part 2: The Architecture of Fascism

Let’s be clear. If you argue that liberals are hurting America by criticizing the President during wartime, you are making a quasi-fascist argument. If you argue that protestors getting our boys killed in Iraq, you are making a quasi-fascist argument. If you argue that the enemy derives aid and comfort from domestic criticism, and that protestors should face legal sanction for this, you’ve moved past the “quasi” and straight into fascism. Neiwart does a good job of avoiding the hysterical use of the word “fascist” on the left, and of laying out a very clear argument with empirical support.
