Dishonestin’ Donald Trump
A couple of interesting articles about Trump and his supporters–who know he lies and like that about him:
- The Toronto Star profiles a man who approves of Trump’s lies saying,
“He’s ruffling every feather in Washington that he can ruffle. These guys are scrambling. So: yeah! I like it. I think it’s a good thing. I want to see them jump around a little bit,”
- Here’s a Scientific American article explaining the Trump’s “blue lies,” that is lies that are told in service of your “team.”
Some of this ties in to my theory of why focusing on the bus tapes during the campaign was a good thing. It was a good thing not because Trump voters would find his behavior offensive. Indeed, because they are such awful shitheads, I’m sure they found his behavior laudable. The reason I enjoyed the focus on the infamous footage is because the nonstop, breathless coverage was demoralizing. For a time, Trump was losing, bigly. And supporting him meant you were on the losing team. These folks may like misogyny and racism and xenophobia and stupidity and lying but they don’t like losing. So any chance we have to demoralize Trump voters is a chance we should embrace. I want them to stay home; I don’t want them voting, period.
I love that his approval rating is currently at 36%. They’d never admit it, but that has got to be killing them. Welcome to four years of constant demoralization, Trump fans!
- In other news, my latest piece, another one of a harsher political bent, is up.
