Displaying the legendary commitment to the rule of law for which the Republican Party has become so well known, some public officials in Utah are nullifying federal law to deny people their rights by only giving marriage licenses to opposite-sex couples.Cache County is refusing to give any marriage licenses at all, a little of the ol’ massive resistance. Once again, states’ “rights” are being used to trump actual human rights, a development that can fairly be called unsurprising.
