There’s Just Too Much Hack

[ 7 ] December 20, 2011 | Scott Lemieux

Jennifer Rubin is so hacktacular that Pareene’s extensive catalog doesn’t even have space for a particularly hilarious bit: she’s so in the tank for Mittens that she attacked Newt Gingrich from the left on Palestinian rights. Pretty amazing hackwork from someone who would have to turn to the left to see Marty Peretz.

    How hacktacular is she?!!?

    “She’s so hacktacular that…”

It’s too bad that Chait ends with a neat piece of illogic:

You can’t find a more passionate Israel hawk than Rubin. She is faced with a choice between her loyalty to the Republican Party and her loyalty to Israeli nationalism. And she sides with the former, clearly showing that her loyalty to the GOP – and, by extension, America – sits above her fidelity to Israel.

Um, last time I checked, Gingrich was at least a nominal candidate for the GOP nomination for POTUS, so hackery against Gingrich can hardly be considered to be an unambiguous demonstration of loyalty to the GOP (let alone, by extension, an unambiguous demonstration of loyalty to America). So how about the possibility that Romney and Gingrich would be equally friendly to the current government of Israel, practically speaking, and Romney is preferable simply because he is more electable?

    • R Johnston says:

The Republican establishment hates Newt and wants him to just go away. The difference in electability is, of course, related to this. Newt is a vanity candidate who momentarily found himself in the spotlight and forgot that he was a vanity candidate. Of course a Republican operative savaging him is a pro-GOP maneuver.

      • ploeg says:

I get why the Republican establishment doesn’t like Newt. I don’t get why backing one GOP candidate vs. another GOP candidate proves that you are a loyal GOPer, let alone proves that you are a loyal American.

I understand that Osama bin Laden was supposed to have preferences about who was to become POTUS, and I don’t think that OBL cared too much about us.

        • R Johnston says:

I agree in part. This says nothing at all about Rubin being a loyal American. But I think her willingness to put aside and lie about her favored rhetoric in the interests of nominating a Republican who might possibly win the general election does tend to show her to be a loyal Republican.

Rubin believes that Gingrich winning the Republican nomination would mean there’s no chance of the Republicans winning the general election, which would be contrary to her perception of Israeli interests. Rubin’s right-wing lunatic visions for Israel bind her to the Republican party, and there’s no contradiction at all between her loyalty to the Republican party, her loyalty to her right-wing lunatic vision of Israel, and her support of Mitt Romney.

Oh yeah? What if Mitt Romney starts sending Israel’s annual package of billions of dollars and advanced military technology to Native Americans instead?
