Lesbians are actually kinda hot and make good soldiers too

So sign ‘em up for Team America: World Police.

There’s a lot to savor here: The time machine that takes you back to 1953; the just-so evolutionary biology; the characteristically creepy mixture of obsession with and attraction/repulsion toward the subject matter; the sexualization of the work place. It’s a heady brew, as Agent Van Alden might say.

Update: I read this after The Daily Caller had removed the original final sentence, which per the Amanda Hess piece Scott links above, read “My solution would get the distaff part of our homosexual population off our collective ‘Broke Back,’ thus giving straight male GIs a fair shot at converting lesbians and bringing them into the mainstream.”

Mr. Rehyansky should try moving to Afghanistan – his line of reasoning is identical to the Taliban’s justification for the burqa and all the other restrictions on women.

I suspect what he’s really channelling is the Big Army Boys who are worried that *they* might get raped, instead of just raping their female comrades…

  2. Malacylpse says:

Someone at S,N needs to start writing for Tucker under the nym Gary Ruppert.

The fact is, in the Heartland…

  3. Stag Party Palin says:

Y’know, he would only have to change a few words and that would be a very funny essay.

  4. Ignobility says:

Wait, you mean he was serious?

[Comment deleted for reasons suggested by Emily below. Comments approving (even metaphorically) sexual assault as a tool of punishment are not acceptable.] –SL

So men even looking at other men is a constitutional-level violation of privacy… but having a goal of straight male GIs “converting” lesbians is cool?! Wow. Just: wow.

  7. cer says:

And the apparent idea of a man being even slightly turned on by them (I believe you flatter yourself, sir) is so abhorrent that it would immediately render straight soldiers unable to soldier. Yet women are apparently supposed to live on a day to day basis with the salivating hordes of men peeking under their skirts. Sounds like straight men are the ones who lack discipline to serve in the military.

  8. Emily says:

Comments like Matt’s just reinforce the idea that rape is appropriately used as punishment and something that some particular human being could “deserve.” I’m disappointed to see such comments on a blog. When you use that kind of language you are choosing to exclude people from your discussion for whom sexual assault is very real and not at all something to joke about or wish on your worst political enemies.

  9. Emily says:

Sorry, that should be “disappointed to see such comments on a blog that I respect.” I’m fully aware that such comments are all over the internet generally.

  10. NBarnes says:

Comments in the Daily Caller link to a piece about how Joe Rehyansky got himself fired from his magistrate job after making inappropriate comments to women coming before him for bail hearings. Shocking!
