Guess what, it didn’t work. Very much like the first several thousand attempts to deal with cocaine use in America via interdiction of the supply:

According to the assessment, traffickers adapted by shifting to larger ships, aircraft, and coastal routes, while cocaine prices, purity, and availability remain largely unchanged.

A couple of things are going on here. One is that Trump is extremely stupid, so things like overwhelming evidence that interdiction always fails makes no impression on him, because things like empiricism have no effect on extremely stupid people. Related: This is why right wingers believe that the reason it didn’t work the first few thousand times was because we weren’t brutal and lawless enough, as if lawlessness and brutality are going to make a big effect on the behavior of drug cartels.

The other is that Trump is a murderous psychopath who gets a thrill from watching people get blown up by the US military, which is also why we’re in Iran, which is another murderous foreign policy initiative that won’t work because it’s completely nonsensical given, you know, what we’ve learned about the way the world works.

A friend noted a few weeks into the Iran fiasco — today is the fifth-month anniversary of that monstrous crime, which will be forgotten along with all the rest of the monstrous crimes, when the time for accountability comes, which will be never — that we tell ourselves stories about Trump in order to live:

It’s a marker of many, many things that Very Serious People can’t even begin to bring themselves to say things like, “The Trump Organization is mainly a real estate scam/money laundering operation, and the guy and his spawn care mainly about politics as a vehicle for further self-enrichment and empowerment.”  Instead, they insist on talking about What the President’s Strategy for Iran Might Entail.

That’s the whole thing, right there, really.
