This is literally how this splendid little war is being run:

New: President Trump is open to supporting groups in Iran willing to take up arms to dislodge the regime, U.S. officials said, an idea that could turn Iranian factions into ground forces at least rhetorically backed by Washington

Trump spoke Sunday with Kurdish leaders in Iran, officials said, and is continuing to engage other local leaders who might leverage Tehran’s weakness to make gains. “President Trump has spoken with many regional partners,” said White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.

Officials said Trump hasn’t made a final decision on the matter, including whether he would provide arms, training or intelligence support to antiregime groups

On Tuesday, Trump twice shared on social media a Washington Post opinion piece about a “Trump doctrine.” “There is no need for a U.S. invasion force,” wrote columnist Marc Thiessen. “The Iranian people are the boots on the ground.”

Who says there’s no plan?

ETA: One big red flashing light warning how completely DC is wired for Republicans is, imagine if a Democratic administration had pursued a policy that had been an absolute catastrophe — twice! — and then another Democratic administration, a little more than 20 years after the second consecutive catastrophe, starting pursing EXACTLY THE SAME POLICY. I don’t think you would get op-eds in even the pre-Bezos WAPO cheerleading for doing something that most people whose brains haven’t been addled by the Blob would recognize as the textbook definition of insanity.

In reference to my post below that among other things suggested maybe Bathhawk and similarly minded people are on to something when they advocate for some kind of hard or soft option in re national divorce, i.e., formal or informal, on some level I realize this will never work, not least of all because the abuser in this relationship is not going to pay attention to any restraining orders. But I can’t help be at least emotionally attracted to some kind of splitting up fantasy, because the alternative increasingly seems like a spiral toward theocratic authoritarianism, abetted by venal dystopian technocrats, who want to replace human beings with robots to the extent possible.

I wish I could see a future in which a broad-based opposition to all this finds the wherewithal to actually derail the train transporting all of us to Confederate Jesusland, instead of always settling for intermittent liberal democratic triage, followed by yet another wave of right wing cumulative radicalization, until one day there won’t be any more triage.
