(Question for LGM’s vast reservoir of historical knowledge: Was Hitler personally very venal? I don’t remember much evidence along those lines, although he did love his mountain chalets and the like).

Just right out in the open. Because of John Roberts’s unspeakably statesman like statesmanship, when he invented a brand new legal rule that presidents can never be prosecuted for even the most egregious public crimes as long as those crimes take the form of official acts, the only remedy for this is impeachment and conviction, which for extremely obscure reasons doesn’t seem very realistic at the moment.

Well there’s another remedy, but it would be extremely prejudicial to The Rule of Law ™, which is the most sacred value in contemporary America, except for literally everything else that could be characterized as a value, a lot of other things that can’t be (like the celebration of the open bribery of the chief executive, which again this quite literally is).
