This is not an original insight, but the media don’t know how to cover crimes committed by politicians completely out in the open, meaning Donald Trump’s daily schedule as president.

New York Times headline at the moment:

Trump’s Plan to Accept Luxury Jet From Qatar Strains Bounds of Propriety

No it does not strain the bounds of propriety. It shatters the limits of federal law, including the most basic principles of constitutional law. It’s a completely out in the open crime. Bribing public officials is a crime. This is a bribe. It doesn’t even pretend to be anything else. This violates the Emoluments Clause, in the same way that taking the vote away from women would violate the 19th amendment. That is to say, on its face, unambiguously.

There’s nothing to “interpret” here. The president of the United States is committing serious crimes right out in the open. The political system will do nothing about it. The institutions of the journalism will not describe the thing as it is, but will prettify it with Kafkaesque euphemisms, such as “bounds of propriety.”

On the eve of the Stalin-Hitler pact, the English socialist George Orwell observed that “we have now sunk to a depth at which restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men.”  This is echoed by the Italian socialist Gramsci’s insight that, under certain conditions, merely to tell the truth can be a revolutionary act.  We are now at such a moment, when unleashing a fire hose of lies and open criminality on a daily if not hourly basis has become the all but official policy of the Trump regime.
