Five years a pandemic

Five years ago today, my wife and I went to our favorite cheapo Tex-Mex place in Boulder, and during dinner we talked about how we might not eat in a restaurant again for weeks even. The actual number turned out to be two years. That restaurant is now gone, along with a lot of other things, the most important for me personally being my prior belief that an enormous percentage of the American people aren’t really evil, or hopeless morons, or both.
Here’s an interesting piece (gift link) from David Wallace-Wells about how the pandemic changed America, almost uniformly and often quite radically for the worse.
This is a thread for talking about what you and we have all been through. One other note: I now have a much better understanding of exactly how and why the 1918-20 flu pandemic disappeared so completely from the cultural and political consciousness. Because pretty much the same thing is happening again, now with extra fascism.
