Moving Forward
It’s two weeks. Time to stop pissing and moaning. Time to sit up straight and start strategizing.
At least half the country prefers Democratic policies. Close to half of the voters voted that way.
All the worst cases you can imagine are not going to happen. Some will. Donald Trump is not President yet, and his personnel choices are not in place. Let’s start letting our senators know that those choices are unacceptable. Let’s let them and our representatives know that we expect them to obstruct to the max.
My position is that we start from where we are. The past is past, and if the people who made bad judgments about campaign strategy (or whatever) come up with more bad judgments, we can exclude them on that basis.
I’ll have more to say later on how I think we should go forward, but for now, some good news.
Chuck Schumer is pushing through judge confirmations as fast as he can. Republicans, of course, are obstructing.
Mitch McConnell has come out against the Senate bowing down to Trump’s appointments.
Ben Wikler, who has done so much for the Wisconsin Democratic Party, is considering running for the DNC chair.
For your mental health, I recommend trying not to follow every Trumpian move or reactions to it. Assuming that they will succeed gives them more power and makes us weaker. Yesterday I almost gave up after being deluged on social media with too many doom takes.
Josh Marshall is doing a good job of presenting the news with balanced analysis. It’s not all hopium, but realistic. His reporters are good too. Sample headline today:
Jamelle Bouie, at the, yes, New York Times, is very good, but I think his posts at Bluesky are even better. They are clear and up to the moment.
For keeping up your spirits, I recommend Nunsense & Shenunigans and GOLIKEHELLMACHINE, who aren’t going to let Trump and his cronies get them down!
Bluesky has gotten very good with enormous growth over the past two weeks.
As Bouie said in one of his posts, Politics doesn’t end now.
