Dick Cheney endorses Harris and his daughter calls Trump and Vance “misogynistic pigs”
I get that “actively opposing kleptocratic authoritarian white nationalism” should be low bar for anybody to leap over, but given that 99% of the current members of the Republican party has completely failed this particular test, I’m willing to hand out some gold stars and commemorative LoomCoin:
Cheney sat down for an interview with Atlantic staff writer Mark Leibovich where he asked the former lawmaker on Friday about what advice she would give Vice President Kamala Harris on her upcoming debate with Trump:
Every, every opportunity, that Donald Trump gets to show the American people who he is. He pretty clearly– and look, his running mate is doing this too I mean, you know. This is my diplomatic way of saying it. They’re misogynistic pigs. . .
And I think what that means is that people have got to step up and realize, I mean, again, look at what JD Vance says on an almost daily basis about women. I mean, that guy has got a real women problem. I don’t know what it is, and I don’t want to psychoanalyze him. And there’s a lot of eyeliner jokes to be made in there. But but I think that, you know, at the end of the day, if you listen to what he says about women, you know, and you look at Donald Trump and what Donald Trump has done and what he says about women, these are not people that we can entrust with power again, but that means women and men. But we’ve got to get out there and vote. We got to make sure people are registered. You got to drive people to the polls. It really, really matters this time.
Meanwhile Dick Cheney isn’t mincing words either:
“In our nation’s 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump,” Dick Cheney said in a statement. “He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He can never be trusted with power again.”
“As citizens, we each have a duty to put country above partisanship to defend our Constitution. That is why I will be casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris,” he added.
It’s striking that pretty much the entire pre-2016 GOP elite that currently isn’t holding elective office is refusing to support Trump, and in several cases is actively supporting Harris.
I suspect that a truly secret ballot of current GOP senators on the question of whether Trump was fit to hold the presidency would be almost unanimously negative, with the exceptions being the outright imbeciles (Ron Johnson, Tommy Tuberville). I doubt even fascist-adjacent types like Hawley and Cruz are sufficiently deluded about Trump to be anything other than totally contemptuous of him.
