One thing that Trump must have spotted about Vance that appealed to him is his willingness to tell ludicrous intelligence-insulting lies on his behalf:

It’s not just that the claim that tariffs on consumer goods don’t raise prices is false in practice and in theory. If they didn’t raise prices on imported goods, they wouldn’t protect domestic industries! Domestic producers who can compete on price don’t need tariffs! Vance is a creepy shitbag but he’s not an idiot, he knows this perfectly well.
Anyway, can’t wait for Politifact to explain how Vance’s claim is “mostly true.”
