It turns out that not only will people be required to pay for the Sacred Blue Check Mark of Authenticity, the real paradigm-shattering idea here is that getting this $8 per month “Veblen good” (am I doing this right?) will not actually involve any verification of the identity of the person who is paying for the SBCMOA.

Of course verification would require paying Twitter employees to do the verifying, and the whole “paying employees” thing doesn’t seem to be part of Elon Musk’s visionary strategy.

I remember a couple of years ago when I made fun of this clown as some off-brand Bond villain, in a thread regarding the launch of one of his stupid vanity rockets, and at least a couple of LGM commenters were appalled that I was guying a charming and basically harmless gazillionaire.

It was a simpler more innocent time.
