Markie Post has passed away.

Markie Post, the actress known for her roles in “Night Court” and “The Fall Guy,” has died. She was 70 years old.

Post passed away Saturday, her manager Ellen Lubin Sanitsky of Wright Entertainment confirmed to CNN on Sunday.

“With great sadness, the family of actress Markie Post tonight shares her passing after a three year, ten month battle with cancer,” her family said in a statement.

She was the female lead of my favorite sitcom of the decade, and so of course I had an enormous crush. The Night Court cast has suffered more attrition that one might expect from a 1980s sitcom. Harry Anderson passed away in 2018, and Charles Robinson died last month. Richard Moll, Martha Warfield, and of course John Larroquette remain with us. It’s a shame and a mystery that the Night Court episode of 30 Rock fell so flat; one of my favorite comedies doing one of my other favorite comedies felt like it should have had a lot more going for it.

… thoughts boosted from the comments on how portable Night Court is… there’s a lot of absurdist, slapstick stuff that continues to play pretty well with modern audiences, but Dan Fielding is really a problem. It’s hard to take him, now, as anything but a straightforward villain, and difficult to understand why anyone else on the show would tolerate him. Fielding is a rich character in a lot of ways, but his nastiness doesn’t really play well as comedy anymore.
