I absolutely believe this:

I don’t know if he’s as pissed off about losing his PGA event as he is at losing the presidency itself, but I suspect it’s in the same ballpark.

If he had just issued a quarter-assed “there will be a transition of power to another administration” statement and kept quiet after it was evident that the Elite Legal Kraken Force wasn’t going to save him, he could have taken advantage of the tendency to normalize even the worst among our Republican elites and kept most of his emoluments. But inciting a lynch mob against Congress is the kind of thing that’s hard to overlook, even if nothing can be obvious to a career crook who’s never suffered any consequences before.
