[If memory serves me, Stinger missiles never actually make an appearance in Rambo III, but the Commies abduct Richard Crenna nonetheless]

In response to questions about his July 23rd phone call with Vladimir Putin, President Trump articulated the clear reason why he did not raise the issue of Russian bounties on American soldiers in Afghanistan.

Interviewer: “Your former head of forces in Afghanistan said, and this when he was working for you, that Russia is supplying weapons to the Taliban
Isn’t that enough to challenge Putin over the killing of US soldiers?”

Trump: “Well we supplied weapons when they were fighting Russia too. You know when they were fighting with the Taliban in Afghanistan.”

Interviewer: “Yeah, well, that was a different era.”

Trump: “But I’m just saying we did that, too.”

Clearly, Trump has at least heard of Rambo III, the premise of which is American support for the Taliban through the supply of Stinger missiles. However, very few of the weapons used in that film are American.

Later, Trump schooled the reporter on the real reason why the Soviet Union collapsed and how Russia emerged from its rubble.

Russia used to be a thing called the Soviet Union. Because of Afghanistan, they went bankrupt, they became Russia, just so you do understand, OK?

Checkmate, Aussie reporter.

If there’s anything that Trump knows, it is the path to bankruptcy.
