I’m sure our regular readers (if any) were looking forward to receiving the kind of in-depth, Geertzian interpretive analysis that only a long-time New York resident of two weeks could provide. With the exception of the pro-choice rally on Saturday, however, I basically avoided the convention and surrounding events; rather, I was trying to stomach 10 minutes of Zell Miller on TV like everyone else.

I do have one anecdote. I flew out to Chicago Friday morning, and the quite attractive woman sitting next to me struck up a conversation. I asked her if she was from Chicago, and she said no, she was from Houston. Knowing what the answer would be, I asked why she was in town, and sure enough she was an RNC delegate. Ah, well–I went back to my copy of Attack Poodles (which, as I am the thousandth blogger to point out, is marvelous, and particularly good airline reading.)

The thing is, I could date a Republican before I could date someone from Houston. (“But it’s a wet 125!”)
