I admit that my tolerance for Concern about Civility on Both Sides is on the low end of the scale, and Dowd’s finger wag at Patton Oswalt is a fine example of why.
Short answer – It’s stupid.
Slightly less short answer – The Concerned Party ignores things like content and context – two key components of communication – and still expects anyone to take him seriously, which is stupid. (Besides which, you know what the lady said about commenting one someone else’s manners.)
As an aside, I’m not sure why Dowd scolded a person who didn’t call Trump a coward, but if anyone ever accused Other Dowd of being smart, it was a false accusation.
