“Traitor-in-Defense-of-Slavery-American” Would be Fine

[ 15 ] March 26, 2010 | Robert Farley

And people wonder why we waste time on Confederate nostalgia. I bet that these folks are incensed that the United States is currently governed by a NOT EVEN REAL MURICAN!!!!

Happy Friday! With roughly one week until census forms are due, a group of Confederate rights activists is urging southerners with Confederate ancestors to declare themselves “Confederate Southern Americans” on census forms in order to qualify for national origin protection under the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Federal law makes it illegal to discriminate because of a person’s birthplace, ancestry, culture or language. The South North Carolina-based Southern Legal Resource Center believes that people with ancestors who were citizens of the Confederate States of America should be entitled to ethnic identity and protection since the country no longer exists.

It was never a legitimate “country,” it was an illegal rebellion that was forcibly suppressed. It wasn’t a country, it was guys with guns that pretended they were a country. Besides, the whole point of the Confederacy was the primacy of the states. You were a citizen of your state. You can still tell the census people what state you’re from.

  2. Vance Maverick says:

If someone were to discriminate against those “with ancestors who were citizens of the Confederate States of America”, that would be wrong, regardless of whether that regrettable and anomalous entity was a country. (I would also find it personally hurtful!) Whether it would be illegal as well as wrong seems otiose.

Confederate Rights Activists. Let’s see, what rights have they been denied? The right to hang black men without recriminations? The right to prevent African Americans from voting, or shopping in your store, or eating at your lunch counter, or, worst of all, marrying a white woman? Maybe they just want the right to maintain their inbred, spittle-flecked heritage.

  4. DrDick says:

OK. Now my brain hurts after reading that. This is really profoundly stupid. FWIW, I grew up in the border states and have Confederate ancestors.

  5. Oh you northern bigots – always tryin’ to keep the white southern man down, discriminatin’ against us with the civil rights and the whatfer and imfringin on our rights to bear arms and make everyone except OUR LORD JESES CHRIST.

  6. Shit. I *totally* meant to write “bare arms.”

  7. Jay B. says:

It’s only because they want to legalize sibling marriage.

  8. Jon H says:

Next they’ll demand a Right of Return.

  9. I guess I’m supposed to fill in Confederate Southern American (3/5ths).

  10. [...] a thread at Lawyers, Guns, and Money linking to another story about some people who want to see [...]

Since my ancestors fought for the Union, does that make me a “Kicked the Conferacy’s Ass” American?

  12. efgoldman says:

    Hmmm…

Admitting to treason on an official gummint form…

I might wish to be a little careful about that…

As was posted many times on many blogs leading up to the 2008 election: These clowns are just beyond parody.

If they want to follow historical precedence, let’s give them a casino tax break, place them on reservations and be done with it.

  14. Zach says:

A lot of African-Americans have ancestors who were “citizens” of that “country” too. Maybe they should list “CSA” so they can get the same benefits and protections these guys are angling for.
