Our Dear Australian Friends
By John Howard has won re-election! This means that Australia’s contingent will remain to fight for freedom, order, and the Anglo-Saxon way in Iraq!
On bended knee, I thank God for the fierce fighting spirit of our brothers down under. They know to stay the course; they know what kinds of sacrifices are needed. Just as we fought shoulder to shoulder with them in World War II and World War I, we’ll hurl back the Islamofascist tide in Iraq and wherever else we choose to combat the terrorists. Australia’s brave 850 will back us up, no matter what the Axis of Weasels says.
Wait. . . 850?
Eight hundred and fifty?
That’s it?
We’ve got 135000 Americans in Iraq, and the Aussies have 850?
Eight hundred and fifty? Like, 425 twice?
This is our coalition? These are our allies? And this is a victory?
Seriously, I have the greatest respect for the 850 strong Australian contingent in Iraq, and I suppose I would rather have those 850 in Iraq than anywhere else. Although no Australians have died in Iraq, I’m certain that many have been wounded, and others have placed their lives in mortal jeopardy, which is to be commended. However, no one can seriously argue that this is a grand alliance. This is an American War, one that has been joined by a few of our dearest allies out of friendship rather than conviction. Australia et al are to be welcomed and lauded, but their contribution does not serve to mask the ineptitude of the American administration in charge of the whole fiasco. It is not a good thing to have to celebrate a narrow electoral victory that preserves the sub-1% contribution of the 4th largest member of the coalition. It is evidence of profound failure at the top.
