Voting Roundup
By Lots of interesting stuff on voting today. In Ohio, the Republicans are trying to get new voter registration thrown out due to a technicality involving paper weight.
In Florida, Publius has the goods on the effort by Republicans to enforce a voter exclusion list that included black felons but not hispanic felons. As many have noted, hispanics tend to vote Republican in Florida, while african-americans tend to vote Democratic. In 2000, the list included many African-americans who were either not felons or whose civil rights had been restored. Had this (or any other) element of the Florida election been carried out properly, Al Gore would be President, and a thousand dead Americans would still be alive.
So, to sum up, one party, the Democrats, thinks that people should vote and attempts to enable them. The other party, the Republicans, does its darndest every year to keep voter turnout low. If you know nothing else about American politics, that should be enough to inform your decision in November.
