Because maybe the Republicans will think a little bit harder the next time they're tempted to deploy bigotry as a wedge issue. On that subject, the Bush administration's handling of the gay marriage issue in 2004 should probably be considered the paradigmatic example for how not...

In the cloture vote today, only 3 Dems crossed: Zig-zag Zell and Nelson, definitive "nominal Democrats," and Robert Byrd. With Byrd, I'm not sure if it's some obscure constitutional principle or a "you can take the boy out of the Klan etc." issue. Anyway, that's it....

The Walkmen

On a whim, I went to see The Walkmen last night. My impressions: 1) They pretty much live up to the hype. I'm planning to pick up at least one of their albums shortly. 2) I've can't think of another rock band as drummer-centered as these guys....
