Week 80

Someone on Bluesky remarked this week that there were SO MANY bad takes on the site. I spent more time away from the internet than usual, and when I came back, that was certainly the way it seemed to me. I think we’re all getting tired from all the nonsense, but we still have some way to go.
Jeanne Pirro recognized when she had lost and withdrew the suit against David Hearn for damaging the Reflecting Pool, while tossing the Interior Department under the bus. Just a few minutes ago, Trump tweeted her under the bus. IT WAS VANDALS! He knows!
Trump is clearly flailing with his war against Iran. Reports are that he is screaming at people in White House meetings about it. And I don’t know what he can do, either, that is compatible with his desire to declare victory. Wrapping things up there is a hard problem even if his ego weren’t standing in the way.
He lost another couple of court cases to try to get state voter rolls. He has lost consistently in these. Something like 20 of them now.
Our federalism, and the fact that the Constitution gives over control of voting procedures to the states, is making it very difficult for him to rig the elections. Even the Republicans in Congress don’t want to pass the SAVE Act, which will hurt them at least as much as Democrats.
I read that Democrats are preparing for legal challenges and all the things that Trump might do around the election, and that’s good. My own feeling is that he can’t really make a difference beyond the gerrymandering and voter suppression that are already in place. Meanwhile, polls are giving Democrats a real head start in the congressional races.
Everything really is about his ego now, and he is damaging Republican prospects for November in multiple ways. Which Republicans are not too happy about, but so far onlyl the lame ducks feel they can oppose him. Little by little, I guess.This is a little short for a weekly post, but I am exhausted just looking at some of the arguments here and on Bluesky. And I do have a longer post in mind now.
