Week 59
A week of war. This morning, an insane post from our President. Iran has surrendered, so I will kill them all. Pete Hegseth said something similar last night. They really do want to kill all the Iranians, for what reason we know not.
I’m glad I posted about special operations forces being sent in to grab Iran’s enriched uranium. Today the New York Times has a breathless op-ed promoting just such a thing. The uranium is about as safe from misuse where it is as it would be anywhere else. The chance of success for such a mission is low. But I guess if you’ve spent a lot of time playing Call of Duty you can see how it might be done. Or sitting at a desk.
People have figured out what events and communications Trump had wrong in this morning’s insane post. It’s usually possible to trace his posts back to some reality. That doesn’t erase the insanity that he introduces, though.
He has not stated the reasons for the war or his goals. That’s consistent with his belief that his great negotiating skills depend on misinformation or none at all. That, and killing the top people, makes it difficult to negotiate an end to the war. Perhaps that’s what he wants.
For comparison purposes,
Puppy-killer and plasticized ghoul Kristi Noem was the first of Trump’s cabinet to be fired. She will be replaced by Markwayne Mullin, who will not present quite as lurid a spectacle. He will have to be confirmed by the Senate.
Jesse Jackson’s life was celebrated this week. Three former presidents – Obama, Clinton, and Biden attended. Biden gave a coherent speech despite his serious foot neuropathy. Here’s Obama’s speech.
More from Heather Cox Richardson.
Jesse Jackson made the world a better place.

Let’s stay away from hypotheticals, as usual. Post your pets. The swallows returned this week, and daffodils are blooming.
149 more weeks to go. What are you doing?
