Elvis Presley funeral hearse procession

It won’t hurt when I fall down from this barstool (location: O’Hare International Airport), so for once I want to post something completely positive, that doesn’t talk about that, or that other thing, or especially you know who.

So I was thinking about how old I’ve gotten, and how less than a year from now 1977 will be 50 years in the past, and how 1977 was a very special time for me in various ways that don’t require describing in great or indeed any detail. Which brings me to the point of this post, which is check out these releases:

4 February: Rumours

8 February: Marquee Moon

8 April: The Clash

27 May: American Stars ‘n Bars

22 July: My Aim Is True

16 September: TalkingHeads 77

Also, January 26 – Patti Smith falls off the stage while opening for Bob Seger in Tampa, Florida, and is rushed to the hospital for 22 stitches to close head lacerations. That must have been a show.

Anyway, I’ve written very critically about the politics of nostalgia, and I realize that every other comment on YouTube is some variation on it was long ago and far away and it was so much better than it is today, but nevertheless . . . It was a very good year.

. . . also someone in comments mentions Margaritaville, which is the single greatest song ever about drinking. I will not be taking questions.
