Speaking of the White Sox, they have tied the record for losses with a week left to spare:

The 2024 Chicago White Sox have made history, but it’s not the good kind.

They lost their 120th game of the season on Sunday, tying the 1962 New York Mets for the most losses in a single season since the modern era of baseball began in 1900. With six games left in the regular season, it’s more than likely that the Sox will set a new record in the coming days.

The White Sox now own the record for most losses by an American League team, passing the 2023 Detroit Tigers’ 119 defeats.

The 1962 Mets were an expansion team. The White Sox won 93 games with a roster that wasn’t particularly old 3 years ago, and were fully expecting to compete as recently as last year. There will be a longer discussion when we see what the final record is but I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anything quite like this.
