The only winning move is not to play

This is an important point about the implications of the AP firing Emily Wilder addressed to media organizations who foolishly think that better social media policies can prevent wingnut mobs from attacking their journalists:
There are no “social media policies” that will protect you from being G*merg*ted except a policy of refusing to ever engage with a fake outrage campaign— Tom Scocca (@tomscocca) May 24, 2021
Rules! Boundaries! Surely there is some rational way for journalists to fix it so they don’t bring these attacks down on themselves. pic.twitter.com/qKZyxV659d— Tom Scocca (@tomscocca) May 25, 2021
The fact that the AP refuses to say how Wilder violated their social media policy should make it clear what’s going on here; it’s bad faith coming and going.
