The Battle of Denmark Strait, in which the German battleship Bismarck destroyed the Royal Navy battlecruiser HMS Hood with the loss of almost her entire crew, was 80 years ago this morning. Over the next three days, the available forces of the Royal Navy hunted Bismarck, finally sinking her on the morning of the 27th. On the latest LGM Podcast I spoke with Iain Ballantyne, author of several books on the battleship Bismarck as well as other naval matters. He has released a new edition of his book, Bismarck: 24 Hours to Doom, which is essentially an oral history of the pursuit. More material can be found at his website, including plenty of detail about the destruction of the German battleship. Enjoy!
