Thanks to Erik for posting the piece I wrote for TIME that came out yesterday.

I have another one with TIME today where I talk some about what being in Memphis yesterday was like. For anyone who’s interested, you can find it HERE.

Two notes:

  1. TIME doesn’t let you pick the headlines for your pieces. If they did, it would be titled what this post is titled.
  2. This focuses pretty heavily on the big “I AM 2018” rally and march yesterday, which is steered in large part by AFSCME. I’m fairly critical of it. There were, of course, other events in Memphis this week that were better on intersectional approaches to movement-building. Many were ticketed, however (including one last night that cost $100 a head) and thus inaccessible to the majority of working-class people.
