Trump Articulates Republican Position With Insufficient Dishonesty

As Amanda says, Trump saying that women who obtain abortions should receive “some form of punishment” is not politically expedient, but unlike the default Republican position (i.e. abortion is murder but women who obtain one should receive less criminal sanction than if they were caught jaywalking) it’s at least vaguely coherent. If you think abortion should be illegal, the only reasons for believing women shouldn’t be punished for obtaining one are 1)if you think women are not rational moral agents or 2)you don’t really believe the underlying premises justifying making abortion illegal. Trump’s problem here is that he hasn’t been “pro-life” long enough to learn the right line of bullshit.
