Benefit of the Doubt?

As a matter or general policy, I try to avoid making assumptions about the motives of others, especially those I’ve never met and don’t know. Still, it’s hard to see how Paperwight doesn’t have a good pointhere. Marshall Wittman is hardly fresh off the turnip truck.

Since I’m already speculating about motives, I might as well go a step further. If I were to guess, I’d say Wittman isn’t particularly pro-bankruptcy bill as much as he’s pro-Lieberman. I’d be inclined to interpret this as rearguard action to protect what (very little) is left of Lieberman’s reputation amongst Democrats, because whoever takes down Lieberman in two years is probably going to be a fair bit less DLCish. I take this all as a sign that our instincts about Lieberman–that taking him out in the primary is a fight well worth the resources–are quite sound. As far as I can tell, Wittman is useful to the Democrats to the extent that he votes for them; beyond that, he doesn’t seem to do much good at all.

If someone can explain to me the link between Teddy Roosevelt and Lieberman, I’d be much obliged.
