Michael Moore turned down the Killian memos, considering them to be unreliable. When Michael Moore has a more rigorous vetting process than CBS News, we have problems.

If this sort of thing only happened to Republicans, then I might be inclined to give more weight to the howls of “media bias” arising from the right at every opportunity. Unfortunately, I was alive and awake during much of the 1990s, and I was capable of reading the English language during the period prior to the invasion of Iraq. I heard a lot about a murderous pair of embezzling drug dealers who managed, somehow, to become the President and First Lady of the United States, despite the fact that the latter was a lesbian and the former a rapist. I read a lot about how Iraq was several days from producing dozens of nuclear weapons to supplement its massive chemical and biological arsenal, most of which it was preparing to shift to Al Qaeda.

Not liberal, just bad. And the right has managed to catch this badness in a clever and self-serving narrative which has had the effect of making the media even worse. If you don’t read Bob Somerby andMedia Matters everyday, you should have your head examined.
